I know I rarely post looks of the day but lately I have been getting more into makeupbee.com and have been making an effort to take pictures of the makeup I do.  For Christmas I received the naked palette 1. I know I am about three years late on that and the naked palette 2 has just come out, but I was never really in dire need of the naked palette.  I always had all the neutrals I needed with the Yaby dramatically neutral palette (and still do)

But the naked palette I asked for just so I had something I could always bring with me , because I have always been a neutral girl, and really its everything I hoped for.

This look was what I wore out on new years eve this year, I used Yaby pearl paints for the white, and used the naked palette for the cut crease and the smokey bits, and even used virgin as the highlight on my cheeks. Maybelline eyestudio lasting drama gel for the liner, and then lafemme blush from the premade palette for my blush.

What did you wear on new years eve?!

Unfortunately Lime Crime has recently cancelled their Pro Discount, much to many peoples dismay and outrage.  You can still get a discount through naimies (information under the discounts tab in the same post as the old lime crime discount info.)

I for one have no idea why they would cancel their pro discount, as their products are all ready extremely expensive, and from what I have seen have so many dupes, and competitors that are cheaper and have similar or better results.  I know I don’t want to pay 17$ for a lipgloss, when I can buy a similar one from revlon for half the price, plus no shipping costs.

I have been reading quite a bit about the drama surrounding the brand, and have really made up my mind after reading about how they responded to and treated temptalia, that I am going to source other options and avoid lime crime all together.

I usually use OCC Liptars for bright colors anyway, as they are pretty much my HG lip product.

But if you are looking for another product similar to lime crime in that they have bright colors in lipstick form, I have heard good things about Ka’Oir, though I haven’t tried those lipstick yet.

They can be found at: http://www.kaoir.com/ if you want to take a look

Today, I was supposed to have a shoot with some friends, just for fun and for our portfolios!

However last-minute things fell through so I stayed home, and played with some makeup. When I first started doing makeup I bought a 120 palette thinking it was the greatest thing alive, I quickly found that it fell short when it compared to professional brands but I still have it for personal use.

One of the  things I find severely annoying about my 120 palette is the fact that the shadows are so soft the dang things keep breaking.  I wont touch it for 6 months and somehow 3 of the shadows will be shattered.  I think they have tiny time bombs in them.

You can really tell the shadows are sub par just by looking at them, Maybe I will redo this look with my sugar pill burning heart palette when I get it just so you all can see the comparison!

Anyway here is just a quick eye look I did, while looking for something to do.

I only used the 120 palette, + a black ben nye cream + a lip tar in feathered for a white base.

Quick and easy!

p.s.  excuse the brows I really need to go get them done ;)

A few months ago as you all know I competed in the IMATS Vancouver beauty/fantasy makeup competition,  I didn’t win but all the contestants got a goodie bag of products.

I promptly gave the jar of glitter included away to a friend because glitter isn’t my thing, but I was quite excited about receiving the 3 eve pearl eye shadow palettes because I had prior to that never had a chance to try them

I am sure you have heard of eve pearl she is a quite famous makeup artist, who is responsible for the salmon concealer trio  which is the best thing for dark circles, especially if you aren’t familiar with color theory.  It takes the guess-work out of color correcting the green, blue, purple colors in your dark circles.

In my gift bag I received 3 of the eye palettes, I believe there are 8. I was given Sapphire eyes which is blue/pinky/peach, Velvet Eyes which has violet/purple, and Emerald Eyes which has green/bronze.

I will review each palette separately, however except for 1 or 2 colors I found most of the shadows a little powdery, and most of them sheered out way too easily.

Emerald Eyes

This palette has the most workable shadows in it, the best out of them is the bronze in the top row center, the dark green in the bottom row center, and the dark blue on the bottom row right.  None of these shadows are matte, which might be why they are more workable than some of the other palettes,  the purpley bronze color in the top right is very sheer and I have a hard time picking it up with brush or finger.

The highlight color is a little lighter than it appears in the pictures and is very warm and creamy.  I don’t like the colors that much in this palette and haven’t reached for it much over the past few months, even though I have warm golden brown eyes and the bronzes and greens definitely flatter them.  If you have brown eyes try this palette you might like it, though for $40.00 I think you could most likely find a better bang for your buck. Though if you are a MAC makeup fan, these seem to sit right around that mark and you might like them.

Velvet Eyes

This Palette has the least workable shades, which I find hugely disappointing because I am partial to purples.  These colors as a group are my favorite. The most workable shadow is the top middle again which is a gorgeous silvery lavender.  The rest aren’t super pigmented or are powdery and sheer out quite easily. Despite this I still use these colors more than the others because I LOVE THEM! They work reasonably well with a primer it just takes awhile more to blend them out nice and I have to be careful so they don’t sheer out, and I really have to pat the product on.  But, we will go great lengths for colors we love.

Once again these shadows are comparable to MAC but aren’t comparable to say Yaby (which are exceptional)

I would never put these in my pro kit.

Sapphire Eyes

You will notice in the above pictures I am missing one of the shadows in this palette, unfortunately my careless clumsy self dropped it off my bathroom counter awhile ago and one of the blues broke. :( Such a shame as it was absolutely lovely. That is another thing you must watch about these shadows, they are quite soft so they break easily.

This palette is the middle runner of the bunch, but also has the best and most workable single shadow in it.  The middle sparkly blue on the bottom is GORGEOUS! It is workable and pigmented and sparkly and just great, great for a nice smokey eye. The highlight color is also nice, good for a natural eye.  The rest of the shadows run the same way as all the other palettes easy to sheer out, or not that pigmented, or hard to pick up.

Mac quality but not really pro quality.

____________

All of these palettes have mirrors in them and are great for the consumer! They are great for throwing in your purse and make touch ups easy.  I recommend using a primer with them for all day wear. If you have a bit of patience the colors in these are definitely an asset to a personal kit.

You can purchase these off www.evepearl.com or my favorite online store www.camerareadycosmetics.com (which really has everything SEE)

I placed my birthday order with camera ready cosmetics yesterday, so it should be here by my birthday, maybe even next friday if I’m lucky.  Look forward to a large Haul post!

Toodles <3

Yesterday I was finally forced to turn the heat on, so I guess its time I admit defeat.. fall is here.

Apart from the sunshine , the warmth, the shorts, the bonfires, and the bronzer being gone, fall is one of my favorite seasons. Fall gives us an excuse to rock out plum and orange lipsticks (not that I need an excuse) and it gives us a chance to buy some fantastic new clothing items, this year I bought pleather skinnies.

This year fall 2011 matte is everywhere,  matte complexions and matte lips. Thank god for all the new formulations and lip products out there, if I see even one chalky dry lip this year I will smack the girl before promptly taking her shopping to show her some better choices.  My favorite is the satin matte lip you get with the OCC Lip Tars dry down. For the fall I really like the colors plum and stalker.

**FAIR WARNING, if you forget to exfoliate prior to ANY matte, demi- matte, satin-matte finish lip product you will suffer grave and dire flakey lip consequences.  **

I am a huge fan of plum cheeks for fall, but some times find them hard to wear as I am a very fair NC15. I am going to share with you my secret for perfect plummy peach cheeks every time.  Doing this gives you a bit of a contour and really make your face look beautiful, and its easy as anything.

I always use cream blush, I find it easier to work with as well as more natural looking. Start with a peachy/pink colored cream blush on the apple of your cheeks (a good one is urban decay glide on cheek tint in score), blend out and upward, until it is a natural color.  Now take a plum cream blush, (a few good ones are urban decay glide on cheek tint in greedy, or a more affordable one is maybelline dream matte mousse cloud wine) and starting on the top of your cheek bone blend the color down into the apples of your cheeks, it should be a well blended gradient from dark to light.

For that matte face that is so popular right now, powder it with some translucent powder.

I will be doing a post later today on a fall look using this technique!

For eyes, the cat eye liner is still going strong.  Has the cat eye ever gone out of style? This year you can stick to the normal, just do thick liner without much of  cat eye, or go the way that a lot of runways have gone, the weird geometric eyeliner.

This is very popular, but not for the faint of heart. I for one will not be partaking in this trend for an every day look, some of my models may not be so lucky!

If you are interested in getting this look but just don’t have the time, or the talent dior has created “backstage eyeliners-to-wear multi-wear adhesive eyeliner patches” say that three times fast! These are similar to those gimmicky lip tattoos that give you interesting designs. They are pretty expensive (59$ CAD for 1 sheet of 4?!!!) but for a special event might be worth it.

There are just a few trends, and a tip to get you through the next few weeks before it gets really cold and the icicles start forming.

I will get into hair color trends another time, right now I have to go drink hot chocolate and huddle next to my heater.

What do you think of the fall makeup trends this year!?

So my birthday is coming up soon, which spurred me to blog again.  I am surprised so many people still read this thing considering I am so sporadic in posting.  I will post 4 times a week for a month then not post for 2.  I just get so busy sometimes :( Sorry fanwiches.

ANYWAY!

So for my birthday every year.. so far at least, this is only the second year… my boyfriend buys me a large amount of makeup products from the ever wonderful Camera Ready Cosmetics .

If you don’t shop there all ready what is wrong with you? I actually have no idea what I would do without this website.  They have pretty much everything I need for my kit, including special fx stuff, + they have pro discount + the shipping is cheap + they ship faster than any other company ever!

I always get my stuff within a week, while other companies take 2 or 3 sometimes :(

This year, I spent an extra long time perfecting my birthday list, to maximize my goodies. I am going to post a list and I want you to tell me what to review, and I will do swatches and a review and everything.

I may even do a big video haul, so my readers can see what I look like.  I am a bit camera-shy.  If you are really curious to see my awkward bumbling self go to my website  www.cvmmakeup.tk  and go to press and watch the video of me at IMATS.  The camera guy had to actually chase me down because I was so loathe to give an interview.

I sure am off topic today

ARE YOU AS EXCITED AS ME?!

XX <3 :)

I have finally received my OCC Lip tar 6 Packs.  I blogged about them a couple of weeks ago, and said I might get all three of them… Well lo and behold I got all three of them.  I think I am a bit of a shop-a-holic  especially when it comes to super pigmented gloss/lipstick hybrids.

I was most excited about the Pastels pack, until I realized all the light colors look totally weird on me because I am so pale.  I think they are probably reasonably hard to wear on anyone, I will save those for fashion/editorial shoots.  I think they would really rock on an ebony beauty.

Anyway, I got the three 6 packs of lip tars OCC brought out again.  The packs were themed, Not-of-this-earth-tones contained rich beige’s, browns and red tones and specifically had Conquest, Petty Beige, Analog, Red Iron Oxide, Melange, and Uber

The Beyond Pastel Pack had … pastels, especially pinks and purples, though they did throw in cha-cha which is a light tangerine color, and Lo-Fi which is a bright neon pastel green.  Specifically this pack contained Tone, Plum, Pageant, Vapid, Lo-Fi, and  Cha Cha

The last pack is probably the most useful and has some of my favorite colors. The Primary Mix Masters pack, has everything you need to create any color of the rainbow.  It has the primary colors, plus black, white and grey, Specifically this pack contains, Stalker, Traffic, RX, Tarred, Dangerous, and  Feathered.

I am really used to ordering all of my makeup products from Camera Ready Cosmetics which has the worlds fastest shipping from any online store ever. Of course I didn’t realize this, and when I ordered from OCC I expected my package to be here in 3 days like I was used to.  I actually had quite a bit of problems regarding my order, the first time I ordered the payment didn’t go through, and I wasn’t aware until I emailed OCC a week later wondering why I hadn’t gotten my shipping info.  The bad thing about this was I had  all ready thrown out the pre paid credit card I used to make the purchase so that morning was spent totally freaking out and looking through the garbage.

After I  found the card, placed my order the second time, and was reassured by OCC  that this time my order has indeed gone through. I waited another week before again asking where my shipping info was, this time one of the Lip Tars in the pastels pack had been sold out and they had to wait for it to come back before they could send my order out.  Finally my order was shipped on the 27th of July! Only 2 weeks after I had initially attempted to order.

Now there I was, impatiently waiting for this wonderful package of goodies I had just dropped 165$ on to get here.  I checked the tracking info every day, and after it first said it left NY, it never was updated again.  I called USPS and asked them about this,  Just a heads up for everyone international ordering from OCC or anywhere else… Unless you pay extra to make it by courier, when they ship orders internationally they downgrade the package from priority to first class, which basically means you don’t get any shipping info, they have no time limit on how long it will take to get to you, and if it gets lost there is no insurance provided.  The guy explaining this to me actually said ” I am going to tell you something not many people know.” To say the least I was pretty peeved.

Luckily, my package came today! after only 9 business days and 13 days total, which isn’t horrible I suppose, but it’s still a pretty long time, considering I only live in Canada, not anywhere over seas.

The above picture, shows the select lip tars I did swatches of, I also threw anime in their to show you the difference between it and pageant.  Anime was NOT included in the 6 packs.

I am going to start with my favorites!

Melange:

As I stated above I thought the pastels were going to be my favorites, matter of fact I had been pining for CHA-CHA for ever! I didn’t expect to fall so in love with melange.  But I really have! I might even take it and keep it for myself, instead of for my kit.  The color is darker than I expected and not as orangey.  It is just really flattering, if you have light skin like I do I suggest grabbing this one.

Stalker:

Stalker is another one of my favorites! I always have a hard time finding a perfect red for my skin tone.  Most reds lip way too harsh on my skin tone.  This however is beautiful! I would even say it is a little pinky.  I think NSFW would be a better color to mix with, it seems more primary red then this one does. Luckily I have it, so I will try both out and see which one gets better results.  Pale girls looking for a perfect red? Grab stalker, you wont be dissapointed I promise.

CHA-CHA:

This Color I was more then a little dissapointed with.  On the website it used to say pinked cantaloupe, but now says light creamy tangerine. It really is a light tangerine, but the color looks nothing like other swatches I have seen of it… maybe they changed the color/formula slightly?  Who knows, needless to say it was more orange then I expected. But it will still be useful for shoots, though it is way too light and looks weird  on me.

Vapid:

This color is crazy! My camera can’t even handle Vapid, not even a little bit.  This is an ultra pastel, the lightest purple you will ever find.  OCC says bubblegum lavender,  I’m gonna say it is purple tinged milk.  I noticed the lighter colors seem a little thinner, then the darker colors.  I had to use more to cover my lips when it came to Vapid, and Conquest barely covered my lips no matter how much I put on.  I don’t think my lips are overly pigmented either.

Petty Beige:

I am still on the fence about this color, I think if I added a little bit of white to it, it would make the best nude lip ever. It is once again darker than I expected. It’s very  beige, a little darker than that beige everyone paints the walls of renters apartments, and new houses.  It’s not really unflattering, but I am just unsure about it. It doesn’t make me look like a corpse though, which I always think beige will… so that’s a plus!

Dangerous:

I am so in love with this color! Grey Grey every day!  It inspires so many shoot ideas in me it’s crazy, I very seriously want to do a shoot in color, but make it look black and white using makeup… Pleasantville style!

Pageant VS Anime:

This last swatch I did, I used anime on the top lip and pageant on the tip lip to show the differences.  Pageant is gorgeous and very wearable but still bold. Anime was always a little too crazy for me, and it stained lips for weeks.  Pageant  came off a lot easier, and is just beautiful.  Beauty Queen Pink/Fuchsia. YES PLEASE!

The very last thing I did with the pageant lip tar is I tested it out as a cheek stain/ cream blush.  A little bird told me that these are amazing for cream blush, and I just had to try it out. Cream blushes are some of my favorite things. The lasting power of lip tars really make them an unbeatable cheek stain.

Here is a photo of pageant as a cream blush

All  in all, I don’t think you can beat the price. 18 lip tars for 150 bucks + shipping. That is a steal!  Especially because they can double as cheek stains, you can use them to body paint.  They really are the best, I use them every chance I get on shoots, because nothing and I mean NOTHING looks as good.
