Zuca Pro Artist

I can not contain my excitement with my latest loot!   Not only is it small and compact and high tech and sturdy and BEAUTIFUL!  I somehow condensed both my silver train case and my prep duffel bag into it. I purchased the zuca Pro artist sport at Hollynorth Production black on black!  I got a 10% school discount and the staff were the greatest.

I haven’t had a chance to take it around town yet but I will say that I’ve only used 3 of the 5 included stackable pouches and all 3 have alot of extra room, 2 of them have enough room to double the amount for sure.

From what I have experienced with my zuca I will give it a 5 out of 5.  But I am going to let some pictures do the talking.

JCI and ELF

This week was my very first week at the prestigious, amazing and gorgeously decorated ( i love love bricks) John Casablancas Institute.  Today was my second day and so far so good,  we get our kits tomorrow and you can for surely expect pictures.  TONS of pictures in fact, for the next ten months.  My teacher is soft and pretty and laughs alot, + she knows her shit as she has been in the business for 20 years.  My class mates are all nice so far and easy to talk to which is a huge plus for me because when I first meet people I might as well be a mime.  I may seem well spoken on here but I stutter, gesture wordlessly and slink as far away from the action as possible for the first little while.

We start actual makeup application on tuesday.  Tomorrow we are doing skin analysis, facials, tones , face shapes and discussing highlighting and brush care some more.  Learning the industry standard way to set up your kit etc.

On another note,  I got my eyes lips face products in the mail today FINALLY!  I havent had time to try them all yet, but I have washed the brushes and checked them out.  To be honest the brush quality isnt great, there are a few brushes I am excited to try, specifically the eyeshadow brush because it comes highly reccomended from liz yu. There are two brushes that I will probably never use, the large powder brush and the blush brush are made from the same bristles,  they have a funny red dye which bled when I washed them, they smell really bad like chemicals, and are rough on my cheeks.

I was actually a little bit mad the shipping took forever, and I didnt get one of the products (the eyelid primer) because it was on backorder.. even though on the site when I ordered it, it really wasnt.  They deducted the price from my bill but that was one of the products I was looking for most.  Expect pictures and reviews shortly on everything however.  Maybe this weekend.

I am quickly running out of places to keep all my makeup, right now I keep most of it in a filing cabinet at my boyfriends house.  However I am addicted and can never have enough, If you are interested in a product or brand or anything and want me to write about it let me know chicas

Much Love

Life Update

I start school next week, I am scared and nervous to my very bones.  I can feel my body preparing itself for the first week of social anxiety attacks.  Of course I am still thoroughly excited, I cant wait to learn and start working over the next ten months. A few makeup artists I have worked with in the past few weeks have told me I will be a jump, skip and a hop ahead of my classmates.. at first.  They say my teachers will be glad I have some experience in the industry.

One week, One week, One week.

On to makeup, I have recently been trying out and looking for the perfect tinted moisturizer, right now I am trying one by Laura Mercier. One thing I have noticed on my hunt for tinted moisturizers quite a few companies only carry three or four shades which makes it hard for me to find an exact match.  The one I am using right now is a teeny tiny bit to dark, but it is summer and I will tan. I will do a review on it later on.

I did a few shoots this past week and will share some of the photos with you, hopefully I will be doing a shoot this week for a hair salon in gastown, if you are from vancouver mayhaps you will be seeing my face poster sized near the steam clock in the windows of an up and coming salon.

love and hugs,

Chi Volume Booster Liquid Bodifying Glaze

Review time!  The other day I went to see the twilight saga: Eclipse (team Jacob woo) and stopped in at the winners next to the theatre to browse.. of course i b-lined for the hair, skin, beauty section and found/bought Chi volume booster liquid bodifying glaze, Big Sexy hair conditioner and a Vidal Sassoon 1″ curling iron for fine hair. Yay loot!  I was especially excited to try the CHI volume booster because I have used the chi silk infusion before and it worked wonders! That’s another story though ..

I am a volume junkie! I crave volume and will buy anything that promises me sky-high volume, body and thickness.  I have fine hair but I have LOTS of it so it all just kind hangs there though it is naturally wavy curly. The Chi volume booster bottle states that it “will provide ultimate volume, body and thickness to the hair,” lets just see about that.

I’ve used this product about three times now, the first thing I noticed and must mention is the insane smell.  It smells so good, really manly like cologne. At first when I used this product I put way to much on, my hair was crunchy and dry and not very big at all.  The second and third time I used a few sprays and brushed it through my hair to cover it all focusing on the crown and blow dried upside down (I always blow dry upside down). It definitely made my hair feel thicker, though once again it was very drying, it didn’t however give me the ultimate volume I was expecting.

I must mention this product is a spray I have always used mousses for my volume, and not even mousses in volume product lines, any mousse will generally work.   If you are looking for high big gorgeous hair with lots of crown volume (girls with square faces like me crown volume is KEY) I would suggest a mousse.  Right now I use Herbal Essences Curl Boosting Mousse which funnily enough makes my hair stick straight but gives it insane volume.. and smells like violets which is the main reason I use it.

However, if you are just looking for thicker hair sure I would point you in the direction of the Chi Volume booster, it gives slight volume and thick hair, though invest in a deep conditioner treatment I predict split ends from this product

All in all I give this product a 2/5 it smells really great, makes my hair thicker but doesn’t give me the volume I crave and it promises.

Lip Plumpers

I got a request from a reader to do a post on lip plumpers!  Before I get started remember if you aren’t getting surgery or lip injections (gross) you can only expect so much. Don’t be disappointed when you don’t suddenly have Angelina Jolie’s killer pout!

Depending on your budget I have a couple of reccomendations that will help your lip plumping situation.

You have heard from everyone and their mother that lip plumpers don’t work, I disagree they do work to an extent.  Lip plumpers work in a number of ways the most common two ways being..

1. ingredients that cause irritation thus bringing blood to the lips

or

2. tiny spheres of collagen that are dehydrated into the gloss that soak into your lips and balloon up making your lips bigger.

The cheapest way to achieve a plumped lip look is to get anything that is safe to ingest and irritates skin ie. cinnamon, chili, cayenne pepper etc.  rub it on and your lips will be puffy and irritated and plump

A less messy more glamorous way is to buy one of the following lip glosses that work reasonably well

Lip Plumping Magic Wands:  Maybelline XL Lip Plumper, Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker, DuWop Lip Venom, Fusion Beauty Lip Fusion XL, City Lips Lip Plumper

The last 3 are especially effective.

If you are doing this for a night out remember if you put a dot of white or a lighter color in the center of your lip it will make it appear bigger. If you are doing this for a photo shoot, get your makeup artist to redraw your lip line, or learn how to yourself (practice makes perfect!!) I’ve had this done before and my lips were crazy huge and luscious, if done right it looks totally real on camera!

There you have it,

Beauty TIP

For maximum coverage, apply your concealer after your foundation. The foundation acts as a base and will not only conceal better  it will last longer.

If you are looking for a good concealer

I use:

Drugstore Brand – Revlon Colorstay blemish concealer

Professional – Make up for ever HD concealer

Other good brands:

Drugstore – Physicians Formula, Maybelline Age Renewing concealer

Professional – Graftobian Corrector Palette, Yaby Concealer Palette, Ysl Radiant Touch

Eco Tools

Yesterday I made a quick detour into london drugs to buy a camera so I could photograph swatches and take photos in my classes, that actually picked up the makeup and wasn’t super blurry.

While on my quick detour.. I made a quick detour into the makeup section of the store.  If you know me or have been reading you should know by now I am obsessed with make up. I live breathe and don’t do much else then buy, test, and research makeup. So of course unable to wait for my new brushes I ordered from E.L.F I bought some Eco Tools brushes.

I had never used eco tools before let alone a synthetic brush, and I really didn’t think they would be too great. However, I heard some good things about the brushes and they were about 5 bucks each (Woo!), so I picked up the foundation brush and the angled eyeliner brush.

Bamboo Angled Eyeliner Brush:

The website said:

• Ultra-flat, precisely angled bristles create a clean line around eyelashes
• Soft, cruelty-free bristles
• Natural & recycled materials

This earth-friendly angled eyeliner creates the perfect line to define eyes. And, it shows respect for the planet:
• Bamboo handle has a low impact on the earth’s resources as it is a highly sustainable plant.
• Synthetic taklon bristles are 100% cruelty free.
• Sleek ferrule is made from recycled aluminum.

HOW TO USE:
• For precise lining, keep the brush’s longer bristles toward the inside corner of the eye.
• Softly line eyes close to lash line with eyeliner.

I Say: I can’t believe how soft this brush is for a synthetic brush! It lines extremely well and is way way way easier to clean then my animal hair brushes. I wish it was a bit stiffer but it still works really well.  I tested it with my aqua creams and it looked great though I had to dip a few times to get the product on the brush.  I really like the handles, and the look of the brush and the bamboo, it’s almost kitschy in a good way.

Bamboo Foundation Brush:

The website said:

• Applies cream or liquid foundation for an even finish and a flawless look
• Soft, cruelty-free bristles • Natural & recycled materials

This earth-friendly foundation brush helps you achieve a flawless finish with cream or liquid foundation. And, it shows respect for the planet:
• Bamboo handle has a low impact on the earth’s resources as it is a highly sustainable plant.
• Synthetic taklon bristles are 100% cruelty free.
• Sleek ferrule is made from recycled aluminum.

HOW TO USE:
• Choose a foundation that is the same shade as your skin tone.
• Use the brush tip to apply foundation.
• Use the flat, fanned portion of the brush to blend upward and outward.

I say:  This brush is my latest dream come true! It’s not as soft as my other foundation brushes but, I tested it with cream and liquid foundation and I’m so in love.  This brush has zero streaking, is a bit poofier then my other foundation brushes, but that has to be a good thing.  My foundation looks almost airbrushed with this brush! When I washed it there was no shedding, no dye came out of it, it cleaned very easily and dried quicker then my other foundation brushes.

It takes care of my beauty needs and my eco conscience and my wallet! I’m sold.
